In the Belgaum district of Karnataka, Muni Kamkumar Nandi Maharaj, a revered Jain Monk was murdered on July 6, 2023. The killers cut the body in several pieces and dumped them into the river near Katkabavi village.
As per a media report, the heinous murder took place at Nandi Maharajs’s residence, the Nandi Parvat Ashram in the Chikkodi area. He had been living there for the past 15 years and was the head of the Acharya Kamakumara Nandi Charitable Trust of Hirekodi village near Chikkodi in Belagavi district. His sudden disappearance on Thursday raised concerns among his disciples, who searched but couldn’t find him. As a result of which, Acharya Kamkumar Nandi Charitable Trust’s chairman Bheemappa Udaare filed a missing complaint on the day of disappearance.
During the investigation, the police questioned Nandi Maharaj’s acquaintance who has been residing in the same Ashram for the past 15 years. The suspect eventually confessed to the murder of the Jain muni. He had borrowed money from the monk and failed to repay it. When the Jain Muni asked for the money, he was murdered. The arrested suspect provided crucial information about another individual involved in the crime. Both perpetrators disclosed that they not only killed the Jain muni but also mutilated his body into pieces and threw them into the river near Katkabavi village.
The police has not been able to retrieve the body parts yet. The monsoon this year has been brutal for many parts of India, which has also been a great blockage in the investigation.
The Jain muni, born on June 6, 1967, in the Belgaum district of Karnataka, was previously known as Bhramappa during his childhood. He was initiated into monkhood by Acharya Shri 108 Kunthu Sagar Ji Maharaj.
