Srinagar, 13 February: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended Adil Manzoor Langoo, the prime suspect behind the brutal killing of two Punjabi workers in Srinagar last week. According to IGP Kashmir VK Birdi, Langoo, a resident of Srinagar, was arrested based on “clinching evidence” and has confessed to receiving instructions from his handler in Pakistan to carry out a terror attack in Srinagar.

The victims, identified as Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, both carpenters from Punjab, were attacked on 7 February while returning to their residence in Shaheed Ganj. Singh succumbed to gunshot wounds on the spot, while Masih passed away during treatment at Srinagar Hospital. This incident marked the first terrorist attack on non-locals in Kashmir this year.

The police investigation revealed that Langoo had received the weapon used in the crime from his Pakistani handler. The recovered weapon will be crucial evidence in building a case against the accused. The authorities aim to file a charge sheet in the coming days for judicial scrutiny.

An FIR was filed promptly after the attack, invoking various sections, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Srinagar Police, utilizing Field and Technical Analysis, compiled a list of suspects. After thorough inquiry, Langoo emerged as the main perpetrator in the case.

To expedite the investigation, DIG Central Kashmir has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The arrest of Langoo sheds light on the external influences behind such attacks, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures and cross-border cooperation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
