In a shocking revelation it has been found that over 700 Hindu students are currently receiving Islamic education within the state madrasas in Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Council has submitted a report to the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights in this respect. This report led the Commission to address the issue by sending a formal letter to the Uttarakhand government.
Rajendra Singh, director of the Uttarakhand Madarsa Education Council, informed the chairman of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights that 749 Hindu kids are learning in 30 madrasas in Uttarakhand when requested for information. These 30 madrasas have a total of 7,399 pupils.
There are 21 madrasas in Haridwar, 9 in Udham Singh Nagar, and 1 in Nainital’s Goular Ghati Ramnagar. At Haridwar, there are madrasas at Jwalapur, Bahadrabad, Laksar, Tilakpuri, Mahawatpur, Roorkee, Mangalore, and other places. at the Udham Singh Nagar district, there are other madrasas at Dak Bungalow Khera, Nai Basti, Laxmipur, Jaspur, Kela Khera in the Bajpur region, Ganeshpura, Mahua Khera near Kashipur, and other places.
Government basic secondary education is scarce in these places because government schools have closed owing to a lack of students. All of these places became Muslim-dominated following the foundation of the state, and madrasas began to spring up. Surprisingly, the district administrations of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital took no steps to enrol these Hindu youngsters in any school under the RTE Act. Aside from the Dehradun and Nainital districts, several more areas have yet to be surveyed.
