Lord Shiva’s idol vandalised inside Baba Lokenath Brahmachari ashram [ Narayanganj, Bangladesh ]

On 1 May, 2023, an idol of Lord Shiva was vandalized inside the famous ashram of Baba Lokenath Brahmachari in Baradi area of Sonargaon sub-district, Narayanganj district in central Bangladesh. As per a local media report, the radicals of other religion barged inside the monastery with the intention to break the sacred idol.

“According to tradition, Mahadev’s murti was being taken for a bath. At that time, the young man suddenly tried to break the murti with his hands. At first ascetics were startled by the suddenness of the incident, but the youth was quickly subdued by the ascetics. Later he was handed over to the local police. The accused has been arrested,” an administrator of the monastery told Ei Samay Sangbadpatra.

Narayanganj, has been a victim of religious persecution of the Hindus for quite sometime. Earlier, miscreants desecrated 12 murtis in six Hindu temples in the district. Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy’s family grabbed Hindu endowed property worth around Tk100 crore. a Hindu headmaster was beaten up in Narayanganj district over yet again an unproven segment of crime, ‘blasphemy’ against Islam.
