[ Reported as seen ]

On 12th November ( of Canadian local time ), Khalistanis in Canada attacked Diwali festivities of Indians, particularly Hindus, at the parking lot of Westwood Mall in Mississauga, Canada. Videos that surfaced on social media showed Pro-Khalistani extremists shouting “Khalistan Zindabad” and pelting stones and trash at Indians celebrating Diwali.

It is alarming to note that it is second such year in which such an attack has been made on Diwali.

Shortly after 9 PM (local time), Peel Regional Police acknowledged they received reports of a “disturbance” in a mall parking lot.

Local authorities, such as Carolyn Parrish, Councilwoman for Ward 5 in the City of Mississauga, voiced their displeasure with the police’s “poor response.” She said, “Disgusting lack of preparation on the part of Westwood Square and extremely poor response by Peel Regional Police,” in a post on X (previously Twitter). The existence of a neighbourhood community police station in the plaza hasn’t made Malton inhabitants’ quality of life any better. A major letdown in every aspect.

In a post on X, Peel Regional Police said, “Peel Regional Police is investigating the incident that occurred on Sunday, 12th November, 2023 at Westwood Square Mall. We are taking the appropriate measures and working with the City of Mississauga on any further actions required. Any questions on by-law enforcement should be directed to the City of Mississauga By-law Enforcement.” They also shared contact information for the public to share any knowledge of the incident.

A similar occurrence was reported in Mississauga in October of 2022. On social media, a video of the altercation with a group of pro-Khalistan fans fighting with Indians went viral. Numerous individuals participated in a confrontation and chanted slogans. The brawl happened in Malton, according to the Mississauga-based online news source Insauga.
