On June 9th, a brutal terrorist attack targeted a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, claimed by the Pakistan-backed Islamic terrorist outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), resulted in the deaths of 10 pilgrims and injuries to 33 others. The bus was en route from the Shiv Khori Temple when the terrorists ambushed it, continuing to fire even after the bus fell into a gorge to ensure no survivors.

Survivors provided harrowing accounts of the attack. One eyewitness recounted how the terrorists began firing at the bus, shattering its windows and hitting the driver, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a gorge. Despite the crash, the terrorists continued to fire at the bus, ensuring maximum casualties. Passengers pretended to be dead to avoid further attention from the attackers.

Santosh Kumar Verma, a resident of Uttar Pradesh and another survivor, described the terrifying sequence of events. He noted that a terrorist first targeted the bus driver and then indiscriminately fired at the passengers. Verma mentioned that the attack lasted for about an hour, with intermittent firing continuing even after the bus had fallen into the gorge. He also highlighted the bravery of the locals and police who arrived to rescue the injured after the attack.

Another eyewitness, speaking to IndiaToday, described seeing 6 to 7 masked terrorists who initially surrounded and fired upon the bus from all sides. After the bus fell, the attackers approached it to continue firing, ensuring no one survived. The witness emphasized the fear and panic among the passengers, including women and children, who tried to stay silent to avoid drawing attention.

The TRF has claimed responsibility for the attack, warning of more such incidents against tourists and non-locals, and labeling the Reasi attack as the “beginning of a renewed start.” In response, the Indian Army launched a search operation in the Reasi area, utilizing drones and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to comb the dense forest regions around the attack site.

SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma confirmed that eyewitnesses reported seeing two terrorists and that a comprehensive search operation was underway. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, condemned the attack and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice. He also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s instructions to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and to constantly monitor the situation.

The Reasi terror attack underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly targeting religious minorities and non-locals. The survivors’ testimonies highlight the brutality of the attack and the immediate need for enhanced security measures. The Indian government’s swift response aims to reassure the public and ensure that justice is served for the victims of this heinous act.
