In a significant and troubling incident in Nagamangala of Mandya’s Belluru town, an Islamist mob attacked the home of a Hindu family, resulting in substantial property damage and heightening tensions in the area. The attack occurred on May 27, following a minor altercation over a traffic incident two days earlier. The local police are investigating the situation to ascertain the details and ensure the safety of the residents.

The conflict began on May 25 when Abhilash, a member of the Hindu family, confronted two Islamist youths over a minor traffic dispute involving a bike overtaking incident. The confrontation happened when the youths, driving a car at high speed, brushed against a bike on Santhe Street in Belluru town. Abhilash and his companion Nagesh questioned the youths about their reckless driving, leading to a verbal altercation.

Holding a grudge from this confrontation, the Islamist youths returned with a larger group on May 27 and attacked Abhilash and his family. The assailants, reportedly armed with deadly weapons, forced their way into Abhilash’s home and threatened the residents. During the attack, Abhilash sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Adichunchanagiri Hospital.

The violent outbreak prompted local villagers to stage a protest outside the Belluru Police Station, demanding immediate action against the Islamist perpetrators. The protest saw a significant turnout, including many women from the community, who raised their voices against the police and questioned the safety and security of Hindus in the area. The villagers angrily asked, “Are we living in Bharat or Pakistan?” reflecting their frustration and fear.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) has assured the villagers that appropriate measures will be taken against those responsible. Despite these assurances, the situation remains tense as authorities continue their investigation.

This incident is not an isolated one. There have been several recent cases in Karnataka where Hindu individuals were attacked by Islamist groups for various reasons, including questioning their behavior. Reports of gang wars, attacks against Hindus, and stone-pelting have contributed to a growing sense of insecurity among the Hindu community in the region. These incidents underscore the rising tensions and the need for robust action to prevent further communal violence.

The attack on Abhilash and his family by an Islamist mob in Belluru, Karnataka, has highlighted the escalating tensions between communities and the perceived inadequacies in ensuring safety and justice for the Hindu community. The local police are under pressure to conduct a thorough investigation and take decisive action against the perpetrators to restore peace and confidence among the residents.
