In a disturbing turn of events, two Hindu temples in Bangladesh’s Panchagarh district fell victim to vandalism and attack by unknown miscreants. Situated in the Deviganj Upazila, both temples dedicated to Kali Mata were desecrated on the night of April 27th.
The assailants not only vandalized the temples but also defiled the sacred Murtis, breaking them and discarding them outside. Despite the gravity of the situation, no formal case has been filed, and investigations have yet to commence.
This alarming trend of targeting Hindu places of worship underscores the ongoing struggle faced by religious minorities in Bangladesh. Experts suggest that Islamist groups, fueled by anti-India and anti-Hindu sentiments, continue to propagate hatred and intolerance, with backing from political entities such as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). As a result, incidents of violence against Hindus and their places of worship have seen a troubling increase.
