In a tragic incident from Wayanad, Kerala, a 20-year-old student, JS Sidharth, reportedly took his own life on February 18 after being subjected to severe physical and verbal abuse by left-wing student leaders. Six members affiliated with the Student Federation of India (SFI) have been arrested in connection with the case.

Sidharth, a second-year student at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Pookode, was allegedly tortured for several days by fellow students, leading to his suicide. The incident involved assault, humiliation, and deprivation of food and drink. The victim’s father, Jayaprakash, has accused the SFI student leaders of murder.

The arrested individuals include Billgate Joshua, Abhishek S, Dons Daayi, Akash SD, Rahan Binoy, and Sreehari RD. Twelve students, including college union leaders, were suspended after the college’s anti-ragging committee found evidence of the brutal beating of Sidharth. The victim’s father stated that his son was targeted after dancing with a girl during a Valentine’s Day function.

The incident has sparked outrage, with opposition parties accusing the administration of indifference. The police have charged the arrested students under the Prohibition of Ragging Act and abetment of suicide (IPC Section 306). The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other suspects involved in the case. The tragedy highlights the need for addressing ragging and ensuring the safety and well-being of students on college campuses.
