Hindu Shop Worker Attacked Over Instagram Story [Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh]

In a disturbing incident in Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, a medical shop worker named Sumit Jadhav was violently attacked by several Muslim youths, including Mohammad Ramzan and his son Altaf, over an Instagram story posted by Sumit. The assault, which left Sumit and three others injured, occurred in Sirpur village under the jurisdiction of Khaknar Police Station.

The altercation began after Sumit posted an Instagram story about the results of a local buffalo fight game (Pada), which enraged the Islamist accused. An argument that started online quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. CCTV footage has surfaced, showing the attackers thrashing Sumit with sticks.

Following the attack, the police registered a case of assault and attempted murder against thirteen individuals. So far, eight suspects have been arrested, while five remain at large. The injured, including Sumit, received treatment at a district hospital.

SP Devendra Patidar confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the police will not tolerate any disturbances to the district’s peace. Authorities have promised strict action against those who take the law into their own hands. Since the incident, Shahpur Police Station in-charge Akhilesh Mishra and Nimbola Police Station in-charge Rahul Kamble have been present in the area to maintain order.

The violence reportedly began when Altaf commented on Sumit’s Instagram story, leading to a verbal confrontation in person. Within half an hour, Altaf summoned his father, Mohammad Ramzan, and 10 to 12 other family members armed with lathis to attack Sumit.

In response to the incident, SP Devendra Patidar deployed a police force from four stations to manage the situation and prevent further clashes. The police have assured the public that stringent measures will be taken to maintain peace and ensure that those responsible for disrupting law and order are brought to justice. The village remains peaceful but under high alert, with ongoing police patrols to avert any potential unrest.

This incident highlights the escalating tensions and the urgent need for effective measures to maintain communal harmony and protect individuals from such violent confrontations.
