In a tragic incident in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu girl allegedly took her own life on July 29th after enduring threats and harassment from Mohammed Wasif Ansari, a Muslim youth. Ansari had reportedly threatened the victim with an acid attack if she refused to convert to Islam and marry him.
The victim, a B.Sc. student, was found hanged at her residence in the Kuravali Police Station area. The constant pressure and threats from Wasif drove her to take this drastic step. On August 3rd, the Mainpuri Police arrested Wasif after her father lodged a complaint.
According to the victim’s father, Wasif Ansari, a resident of Gharnajpur locality and the son of Aslam Ansari, had been persistently pressuring his daughter to convert to Islam and marry him. Wasif allegedly threatened to circulate an obscene video of the victim on social media if she did not comply with his demands. Despite informing her family, the victim’s father initially refrained from involving the police due to concerns about potential defamation.
The situation escalated when Wasif threatened that he would either marry the victim on the same day or throw acid on her face. This ultimatum led the victim to take her own life.
Mainpuri SP Vinod Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s father had alleged that Wasif was harassing his daughter and pressuring her to marry him. The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Wasif, who has been sent to jail. The cause of death was identified as hanging, and investigations are ongoing.
