[Reported as seen]

Gadappa Mulkunaik, a Police Sub Inspector (PSI) serving with the railway protection police has been booked for allegedly playing songs on the loudspeaker during Azaan in Aurangabad’s Satara district.

According to police, Gadappa’s house is in Satara and is located adjacent to a mosque. He took the liberty to play music inside their walls which was not intended to disturb the neighbourhood in any way.

The Muslims must stay quiet during the Aazan, which is not the case with the other religions. Gadappa Mulkunaik, had sinned as per Muslim laws. Hence, the Muslims complained about it to the police and he was booked on charges of causing enmity between two social groups. The police were quick to arrest the Sub-inspector.

The loudspeakers of the mosque, are played at high decibels and cause noise pollution. It is banned in many Islamic countries but in India, this disturbance is yet bored by many in the name of ‘secularism’. Everybody has the right to practice their religion but the cost of disrupting the lives of other communities is unacceptable.

However, when someone not politically powerful tries to find their peace in the oppression of the Muslims, they are meted with the same treatment as a sub-inspector, Gadappa Mulkunaik.
