Two persons were injured in the Ram Navami violence in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai. 25 vehicles were set ablaze. This happened when the procession was returning chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram, through the Muslim dominated area. This offended the local Muslims and they resorted to a heated argument. The Muslims not being able to be considerate of the religious sentiments of other communities took to violence.
Around 10 o’clock in the night, 45-50 boys together vandalized the vehicles present in the area, but the video of the incident went viral on social media.
Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil denied the charges of communal violence in the state. He said that some people are trying to spread riots in the name of caste so that they can take advantage of it. There have been many such cases in Maharashtra including Mumbai where attempts are being made to create differences between two religions in this way. He said that the incident in Mankhurd has been taken seriously and I appeal to the people to maintain peace. Strict action will be taken against whoever is responsible for these cases.
