Amjad Elopes with Hindu Girl, Takes Jewelry Worth ₹65,000; Lawyer Raisuddin Assists, [Dehradun, Uttarakhand]

A troubling incident of ‘Love Jihad’ has emerged from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where a young man named Amjad allegedly eloped with a Hindu girl on Thursday, June 27, 2024. The girl’s family has accused Amjad of persuading her to leave with jewelry worth ₹65,000. Lawyer Raisuddin is alleged to have assisted Amjad, and there have been calls for his disbarment. When members of Hindu organizations protested at Raisuddin’s house, they were reportedly attacked, resulting in the injury of a Bajrang Dal activist.

The incident occurred in the Vikas Nagar police station area of Dehradun. The girl’s sudden disappearance, along with the missing jewelry, led her family to suspect Amjad. They claimed that the girl took the jewelry at Amjad’s behest. Raisuddin, a lawyer from Vikas Nagar, is accused of aiding Amjad.

Upon learning of the incident, members of Hindu organizations visited the girl’s home and then proceeded to Raisuddin’s house to protest. There, they were allegedly attacked, resulting in the injury of a Bajrang Dal activist. The injured activist received medical treatment. The attack incited the protesters, leading to reports of vandalism. The enraged crowd also demonstrated in front of the Herbertpur police outpost, demanding the safe return of the girl, the arrest of Amjad and Raisuddin, and the revocation of Raisuddin’s legal license.

Senior administrative officers arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The protesters’ actions were recorded and widely shared on social media, where they voiced concerns about the safety of Hindus in their own country.

In response, the police have registered an FIR against both Amjad and Raisuddin based on the girl’s family’s complaint. Raisuddin reportedly has a history of criminal cases and had previously been jailed. Despite his release on bail, his alleged criminal activities have continued. The police are actively searching for both the accused and the girl. Given the tension, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order.

This incident has heightened communal tensions and raised significant concerns about the safety and security of individuals in interfaith relationships in the region.
