Satna, Madhya Pradesh: A shocking case of ‘love jihad’ has emerged from the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. A young man allegedly deceived a college girl by hiding his true identity and entrapping her in a web of love, only to later attempt to coerce her into religious conversion. The man also reportedly threatened her family members.
The Muslim youth, posing as a Hindu, concealed his true name and background. He befriended the girl from the local girls’ college, eventually luring her into a romantic relationship. Under false pretenses, he convinced her to enter a live-in agreement. Once she was in his control, he began to harass her, pressuring her to convert to his religion. The threats extended to her parents, who were also coerced into accepting the conversion demands.
The incident centers around a 19-year-old final-year B.Com student from Indira Kanya Mahavidyalaya, under the jurisdiction of City Kotwali. The accused, Mohammad Adil, son of Mohammad Zaheer, residing near Lotan Akhada, ensnared the girl by introducing himself as Aditya Yadav. In November 2023, he secured her consent to live together through a sworn affidavit. Meanwhile, Adil’s parents began to pressure the girl’s family to convert their religion.
The matter escalated and reached the police station with the help of Bajrang Dal activists. The police have since registered a case against Adil and his parents under the Religious Freedom Act. Specifically, they have been charged under Section 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code 2023 and Sections 3 and 4 of the Religious Freedom Act 2021.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges and the need for vigilance against deceptive practices targeting vulnerable individuals for religious conversion. The community hopes for swift justice and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
