In October 1990, amidst rumors of the Babri structure’s demolition in India, Bangladesh witnessed widespread violence against Hindus, resulting in the destruction of over 3,500 temples and brutalities against 2,400 Hindu women. The struggle for the Ram Temple in India fueled this unrest, with attacks on Hindus starting as early as 1989. The violence peaked on December 6, 1992, coinciding with the marking of ‘Shaurya Diwas’ by Hindu organizations. The atrocities in Bangladesh, largely ignored, saw over 1,000 women raped, numerous temples demolished, and thousands of homes and businesses destroyed. The media’s focus on the Babri demolition overshadowed the suffering of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, creating a tragic and forgotten chapter in history.
