In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves through Nanpara town in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, a 1-year-old child fell victim to a heinous crime. Bhondu Rehman, a 50-year-old man, was arrested by the police on Sunday (18th February) for allegedly raping the toddler in a field.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred on Saturday evening when the child, innocently playing, was lured by Rehman under the false pretext of being fed. Subsequently, he committed the unthinkable act, leaving the child in critical condition. Disturbingly, Rehman fled the crime scene after the assault.

Upon discovering the gravity of the situation, the victim’s family promptly alerted the authorities. The child was swiftly admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nanpara for immediate medical attention. Due to the severity of the case, she was later transferred to Lucknow Medical College for enhanced medical care.

A police team, led by Mithilesh Kumar Rai, initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Superintendent of Police (Bahraich) Vrinda Shukla confirmed the arrest of Bhondu Rehman and expressed the urgency of transferring the child to Lucknow for specialized treatment.

SP Shukla condemned the heinous crime, describing it as “a horrific act.” She assured that she would personally request the special POCSO court to expedite the trial, seeking swift justice for the young victim. A case has been registered against Bhondu Rehman under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Child Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This tragic incident underscores the pressing need for societal vigilance and stringent measures to protect the vulnerable, as the community rallies for justice and the speedy prosecution of the accused.
