In a tragic incident in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat, a 24-year-old Hindu youth named Yagnik Dudhrejiya was brutally murdered by his Muslim wife’s family members due to their disapproval of the interfaith marriage. The attack took place on August 3rd in Shedhakhai village.

Yagnik Dudhrejiya, who belonged to the Sadhu caste, had eloped and married Ramza, a woman from a Muslim family in the same village, about a year and a half ago. Despite the family’s strong opposition, the couple persisted and recently returned to their native village after welcoming a baby girl around 45 days ago.

On the evening of August 3rd, Yagnik was intercepted by his wife’s relatives while he was out with his friend, Hardeep Singh Vajubha. The attackers, identified as Adam Musa Detha (42), Hothi alias Dado Kasam Detha (27), Juma Musa Detha (40), Osman Musa Detha (35), Sajid Isha Detha (26), Salim Hussain Detha (32), and a minor, surrounded Yagnik and launched a vicious assault on him using axes, iron rods, sticks, and knives. The attackers shouted, “You married our girl without our approval, we won’t let you go alive today,” before hacking him to death.

Yagnik sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Jamnagar, where he was pronounced dead.

Following the attack, Yagnik’s mother filed a complaint at the Bhanvad police station. The police have arrested six men, including Yagnik’s brother-in-law and several of Ramza’s uncles. A minor has also been detained and will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other related laws, including charges of murder and unlawful assembly.

Police have been deployed in Shedhakhai village to prevent further violence, and the situation is currently under control, according to Sub Inspector K.K. Maru of the Bhanvad police station. The community is in shock, and there is significant tension following this brutal incident.

This case highlights the ongoing issues related to interfaith marriages in certain regions of India, where social and familial pressures can lead to tragic consequences.
