A controversy has erupted in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, involving an alleged case of “love jihad” where a Muslim youth, posing as a Hindu, attempted to abduct a Hindu woman from Surat. The accused, identified as Junaid, used a fake Instagram profile under the name “Rajesh” to befriend and deceive the victim.

Junaid, 44, who has been working in a salon in Delhi’s Loni, reportedly created a false identity on Instagram and built a relationship with the Hindu woman from Surat. On July 18, he allegedly lured her to his home in Jalalabad, Shamli. Once there, he deactivated his Instagram account, which led to suspicions and complaints from local Hindu organizations.

The woman reported that Junaid had concealed his Muslim identity and tried to convert her. This information led the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members to demand Junaid’s arrest. The police took him into custody and informed the victim’s family, who were on their way to Shamli.

Junaid’s father reportedly opposed his actions and informed the police. The father claimed that Junaid, who had reportedly fabricated his age using a fake Aadhar card, had even threatened to kill him. The police are currently investigating the fake documentation and the incident as a whole.

The VHP and other local Hindu leaders, including Yashveer Maharaj, have called for stringent action against Junaid and have demanded that the victim be reunited with her family. They have warned that further action will be taken if the police fail to address the matter adequately.

The case has ignited discussions on religious conversion practices and the need for greater scrutiny of online identities and relationships. The police are continuing their investigation and have seized Junaid’s mobile phone to gather more evidence.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about deceptive practices and the implications for interfaith relationships and religious freedoms.
