In a distressing case from Anjar in Kutch, Gujarat, a Sikh woman has accused Hussain Baloch, an Islamist youth from Jamnagar, of severe physical and mental abuse, forced conversions, and financial extortion. The woman has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Anjar police station, detailing her harrowing ordeal and seeking justice.

The victim, originally from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, relocated to Gujarat, where she managed her brother’s rental properties. As a divorcee with a 10-year-old son, she lived alone and was introduced to Hussain Baloch by an Islamic couple, Sameer and his wife, who were her tenants.

  • Promises of Marriage and Initial Contact: Sameer and his wife pressured her to marry within the Islamic community. Eventually, she met Hussain Baloch in September 2021 after initial resistance.
  • Coercion and Abuse: Baloch pressured the woman into a relationship and moved in with her and her son. He allegedly subjected her to sexual assault, physical abuse, and forced conversions.
  • Forced Abortions: The woman became pregnant multiple times, each time coerced into having an abortion. Baloch’s family, including his brother Feroze and father Akbar, were involved in these coercions.
  • Financial Extortion: Baloch and his family extorted 9-10 lakh rupees from the woman. The woman also accused Baloch of targeting other Hindu girls for conversion.
  • Continued Abuse and Abandonment: Despite the abuse, she continued living with Baloch, who promised marriage only if she converted to Islam. Eventually, she was abandoned by Baloch after giving birth to a son.

After receiving no support from her family, the woman filed a formal complaint on May 9. The Anjar police have registered a case against six individuals, including Hussain Baloch, his brother, his father, Sameer, Sameer’s wife, and Feroze.

Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, has taken cognizance of the matter and transferred the case to the Local Crime Branch (LCB).

This case underscores the ongoing issue of forced conversions and abuse by radical elements, highlighting the need for stronger protections for vulnerable individuals in minority communities.
