In Haryana’s Karnal Shamgarh village, miscreants destroyed an idol of Lord Hanuman placed on Panchayat land overnight and threw the pieces into a nearby pond. The aftermath of the anti-Hindu incident left the atmosphere in the village tense.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Sonu Narwal arrived along with police officials. They conducted two two-hour searches and pulled out the broken pieces of the idol from the pond. A local named Rajpal Babli said that he noticed at 2.10 pm when he reached the place. After that, the authorities were informed about the matter.
The villagers present there mentioned that the land belonged to the Panchayat but people from ‘another community’ encroached on the place. The matter is now in court. The villagers said that they installed the deity there for worship some time ago as it is the property of the Panchayat.
However, the ‘other community’ was opposed to it. They regularly threatened to remove the idol and issued a similar warning on October 13. Local residents blamed the perpetrators of the crime.
As soon as the information was received, DSP Sonu Narwal along with a large contingent of police rushed to the area and pacified the population. Pieces of the idol were found and later more parts were found near the nearby pond.
According to the official, the locals lodged a complaint with the police and claimed that members of the opposite party broke the idol. He stated that the police will thoroughly investigate all aspects of this case and assured that the accused who defaced the idol will be arrested soon.
